What to Expect in a Cosmetic Appointment

Before the Appointment

1. Research and Choose a Qualified Practitioner:

   - Ensure the practitioner is experienced and certified in administering cosmetic injectables. Look for credentials, reviews, and before-and-after photos of their work.

2. Initial Consultation:

   - Discussion of Goals: Be prepared to discuss your aesthetic goals and concerns. Your practitioner will evaluate your facial structure and skin condition to determine the most suitable treatment plan.

   - Medical History: Provide a detailed medical history, including any medications, allergies, or previous cosmetic procedures. This information is crucial for ensuring your safety and the effectiveness of the treatment.

  1. Treatment Plan:

   - The practitioner will explain the proposed treatment plan, including the type of injectables, the areas to be treated, and the expected outcomes. You will also be informed about the potential risks, side effects, and recovery process.

   - The doctor will be contacted via Telehealth to do a review and prescribe the relevant medication.

During the Appointment

1. Preparation:

   - Cleansing: The treatment area will be thoroughly cleansed to prevent infection.

   - Marking: The practitioner may use a marker to outline the injection sites for precision.

2. Numbing:

   - Topical Anaesthetic: Depending on the area and your pain tolerance, a topical anesthetic or numbing cream may be applied to minimize discomfort. For some treatments, ice packs or a local anesthetic may also be used.

3. Treatment Process:

   - Wrinkle reduction treatment: Small amounts of medication are injected into specific muscles using a fine needle. The procedure typically takes 10-15 minutes, and the number of injections depends on the areas being treated.

   - Volumising treatments: These are injected below the skin’s surface to add volume and smooth wrinkles. The procedure can take 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.

4. Immediate Aftercare:

   - Observation: Your practitioner will monitor you for any immediate adverse reactions.

   - Instructions: You’ll receive aftercare instructions, such as avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun exposure for the first 24-48 hours.

After the Appointment

1. Short-Term Reactions:

   - It’s normal to experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites. These side effects usually resolve within a few days and can last up to 2-4 weeks.

2. Results Timeline:

   - For the treatment of wrinkles: Results typically begin to appear within 3-5 days, with full effects visible in about two weeks. The results last 3-4 months.

   - For the treatment of volume loss: Results are usually immediate, with full effects visible after the initial swelling subsides. Depending on the type of treatment, results can last from 6 months to 2 years.

3. Follow-Up:

   - Schedule a 2 week follow-up appointment to assess the results and address any concerns. This is also an opportunity to plan for maintenance treatments if desired.

Long-Term Considerations

1. Maintenance:

   - Regular treatments are needed to maintain the results. Discuss a maintenance schedule with your practitioner based on the type of injectables used and your individual needs.

2. Healthy Lifestyle:

   - Maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and proper skincare, to support the longevity of your results.

In recent years, masseter muscle reduction has gained popularity as a non-surgical cosmetic procedure for achieving a slimmer, more contoured facial appearance. This treatment primarily involves the use of botulinum toxin (anti-wrinkle) to reduce the size of the masseter muscles, which are responsible for chewing and clenching the jaw.
